LET ME HELP YOU MOVE YOUR LIFE FORWARD.
Feeling isolated is painful and troubling. We all want a close and loving relationship.
Feeling isolated is painful and troubling. We all want a close and loving relationship.
I’ve spent more than 40 years helping people find just that. I provide a focused method for helping you feel more connected and fulfilled with your partner.
Life is too short to wait and hope that things will get better. You don’t have to struggle alone. I’d like to help you. I’m ready to sit down with you, hear your story and assist you in taking the next positive step. Give me a call at 805.969.7084 so we can meet and begin this exciting work.
This brief video gives you a feel for who I am and my approach to the work.
My greatest assets are my deep sense of caring and my desire to be a life-long learner. While I have three post- secondary degrees, I have been an active participant in continuing education programs. I continue to make presentations and attend seminars in the field of psychology. As a result, I have expertise in couples dynamics, family issues, serious, psychological disorders, mood and temperament concerns, substance abuse, anxiety and depression.
I hold a doctorate in clinical psychology and a Master’s degree in psychology and education. I am the co-founder of Pacifica Graduate Institute where I served as Executive Vice President and core faculty for 16 years. Currently, I am the Executive Director of the Center for Successful Aging where I continue to train new therapists, supervise interns and make seminar presentations on a variety of topics and issues facing people working in our field.
My professional career began as a high school teacher, then a school counselor which gave me rich experiences in working with a wide variety of ages, cultures and challenging student situations.
I am fortunate in that I have maintained a strong and vibrant marriage, and have actively participated in raising two young, interesting adults. Having now been a licensed Marriage, Family Therapist for over 40 years, I am ready and excited to work with you.
I have a small cameo in an important documentary on Netflix called, SENSITIVE - THE UNTOLD STORY
featuring Alanis Morissette and therapist Elaine Aron.
You and I can begin this work ourselves. Sometimes one person is afraid to open their lives to a third party and is reluctant to participate. When they find out that you are feeling comfortable and good work is taking place, they often decide to join the sessions.
It is common for one person to blame themselves or the other person for problems in the relationship. I believe that each person contributes to the issues that are causing discomfort. Rarely though is one person causing the entire problem.
I will bring my 30 years of experience to our work. I will point out issues and patterns that you and your partner are enacting. When someone loves another and things aren’t working, it causes a challenging dilemma. It is tempting to ask someone else to decide what to do. I would rather help you become a stronger decision maker. Be assured though, that I will be with you each step of the way as you decide what is best for you and your situation.
While couples counseling is a specialty, I have extensive experience with depression, anxiety and substance abuse. Often verbal and physical abuse become intertwined with chemical dependency and relationship dysfunction. Having a strong educational background, I am very familiar with learning disabilities such as ADD and other cognitive processing skills.
I am now available for Zoom sessions for anyone living in California although I find it more effective to meet with people face to face. I have an office in Santa Barbara and am happy to meet you at the location that works best for you. If meeting in person is not an option, a phone or Zoom session is possible.
When you contact me I will discuss with you my current fee. If this fee is a financial hardship, I am willing to discuss the situation and solve it with you.
